SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM

As our friends and neighbors age in their homes, many of them struggle to stay independent.  Every day in the Red Lake area, Senior Companions are making visits to these people.  The Senior Companions visit, provide transportation to appointments and access to services.  These services are provided by a collaborative effort between Red Lake Nation and Lutheran Social Service.

FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM

Foster Grandparents serve area schools, headstarts, and at St. Mary’s Mission School.  They simply provide support, encouragement and hugs to young people.  They serve as mentors and tutors to kids who need a friend.  These services are a collaborative effect between Red Lake and Ponemah Schools, St. Mary’s Mission School and Lutheran Social Service.

Volunteers must be over 60 years old and willing to serve 15 hours per week.  They receive mileage reimbursement and a small tax free stipend.  For more information please contact Donna at 1-218-679-2152 or Mar at 1-800-563-8150.
